Job Description

Position Overview

The Controller will oversee all aspects of the companys financial management, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This role will provide leadership to the accounting team, partner with project managers and executives, and ensure accurate financial visibility into job costs, cash flow, and profitability. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and job cost accounting
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections in coordination with leadership
  • Partner with project managers to monitor project financial performance, analyze variances, and support decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and construction-specific reporting standards
  • Maintain relationships with external partners including banks, auditors, and insurance providers
  • Implement and improve internal controls, financial systems, and reporting processes
  • Lead and mentor accounting staff to foster professional growth and accountability

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3+ in a leadership role
  • Construction industry or homebuilding experience strongly preferred, but not required
  • Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion methods
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution
